Dark truths uncovered . . . The buried contents of a Nazi train. An aging SS killer—with a final sting in his tail. And the World War II secrets of a US presidential hopeful’s Jewish family, hidden in London for 70 years. In this gripping thriller, war crimes investigator and ex-CIA officer Joe Johnson uncovers links between financing for the presidential campaign, the Nazi train, and a ruthless British blackmail plot. Soon there are high-level intelligence agency and criminal networks combining across three continents against Johnson and his ex-MI6 colleague Jayne Robinson. He finds himself inextricably caught up in a deeply challenging quest to win justice, to avenge his mother’s tortured past and revive his flagging career. Review

"This is one of those books that had just about everything that I always tend to look for - strong female characters, historical accuracy, action, intrigue, flawed protagonists, and believable characters . . . The intertwining plots are complicated, fast paced, and do a wonderful job of continuously sucking the reader in. I was on my toes right up until the very end." - Jessica Macaulay, Minimac Reviews (You can read the entire review HERE)

"This is an action packed, fast paced, intriguing book of deception, deceit, conspiracy . . . I really enjoyed this book. The thing that soon became obvious as I read, was the attention to detail. The historical aspect has been very well researched and executed, within a very action packed and fast paced story." - Yvonne Bastian, Me And My Books blog

"A letter from beyond the grave sends a relentless Nazi hunter on a decades-old quest for justice against an SS mass murderer. From a wartime massacre in Poland to the corridors of power in modern day Washington, Andrew Turpin serves up a fascinating and original thriller in ''The Last Nazi'' that will keep you turning the pages right to the very end." - Howard Linskey, author of The Search, Hunting the Hangman, and Behind Dead Eyes.

"A riveting and engrossing thriller" - Neil Spark

"Absolutely brilliant! Loved the pace of it and the connection the reader gets with Joe Johnson" - Mike Peates

"Your story was compelling. It took two days out of my life while I couldn''t put it down!" - Walt Hunt, Publisher and former Editor-in-Chief

"Incredible book . . . hard to believe it is your first." - Penny Flanagan

"Excellent!!! I give it 10 stars out of 10. Hard to put down." - Mitzi McAllister

"It was an intriguing blend of fact and fiction." - Glen Renfrew

"I''ve read a lot of books in my 60 years and yours is way up at the top of authors. It felt like I was reading a movie." - Marty Moore, reviewer

I don''t want to be too hard about this. I realize its genre fiction and it contains your standard tropes and cliches (the protagonist is ex-CIA for instance), but the problem I had, at least in the first quarter of the book, was the clumsy background exposition via dialogue. Maybe it''s me, but it bugs me when main characters tell each other things they both know and have no real reason to bring it up. I get that this is the first book in a trilogy, but author could have been a little more nuanced in offering us the backstory. So with that nit picked, I will say that the author is definitely capable of solid yeoman work and as the story goes forward it gets smoother and turns out to be a decent little piece of historical spy fiction. So yes, I would still recommend it.

The Last Nazi is about a-CIA-agent-turned-Nazi hunter who gets a case relating to a suspicious suicide. A reporter hires him and the two of them make their way to England in search of two Holocaust survivors'' jewelry store. As the plot unfolds, the two brothers who escaped Rosen Work Camp in Poland are taking gold that Nazis once stole during World War II. The brothers have an interesting back story. As prisoners, they were required to hide the gold deep within tunnels that they helped build. SPOILER ALERT: The brothers get their revenge by selling the gold to a former Nazi at a set price.
My Review: The story is loaded with facts as well as conspiracy theory. I loved the story, the research, and the historical angle the author used throughout the story. Although the plot could be complicated and confusing at times, the author would quickly review parts of the story so you were up to speed while reading.. I enjoyed the book immensely and will probably read more of this talented writer. I highly recommend this book for WWII buffs and conspiracy freaks like me! Dina Rae

A surprisingly good story that ranges from WWII to the present day. Both early and later portions of the story take place in an area of Poland I am very familiar with, and the book does a good job providing a historically accurate description of the area and the part it played in the war. The plot driver is a treasure of Nazi gold hidden in tunnels during the last days of the war. Two brothers who escaped the concentration camp during the war use the gold to torment a evil Nazi in hiding in Argentina. The characters are very interesting, and interact in a variety of ways as Joe Johnson, a former CIA agent turned Nazi-hunter, tracks the aged war criminal despite efforts by two governments to protect the criminal. The Nazi''s son. old friends, former lovers and enemies work with and against Joe Johnson as he tries to understand the issues and do the right thing. The writing is quite good and keeps the level of suspense high as threat after threat impacts Johnson and his team

I love the spy adventures from WW II, but this adventure from Andrew Turpin is just boring. The characters remain names on the page. The action is so slow and so UNimportant that I skipped entire chapters. After skipping several chapters and diving back in to find almost nothing had changed, I gave up on the book. I do not know how authors create believable characters that engage the reader, and unfortunately, Turpin doesn''t either.

When I read this book and realized it was the author''s first book - I couldn''t believe it. Excellent book. I couldn''t put it down until I completed it. The book grabbed me from the prologue and kept me there until (sadly) the end - I wanted more. One of my favorite genres covers anything related to WWII - and this book did not disappoint! If this is precursor of what this author is capable of, I can hardly wait for his next book! Mr. Turpin is easily my favorite new author!

I managed to get about halfway through this book before putting it away and going to something new. My apologies to the author but I found it plodding and boring. At the halfway point I felt I had enough of the story to pretty well predict the rest and I did not find myself caring very much for the protagonist who seemed to do way too much smoking.

Andrew is a very good writer and it''s been a very long time since I''ve found a spy thriller type author I like!
One thing he does that I really appreciate is wrap up the details of the story so there are no "loose threads" hanging out there. It''s frustrating to me as a reader, to get to know characters and their motivations in the plot, but then the ending doesn''t address any of it--as if the writer has suddenly run out of time and just ends the story!
Andrew doesn''t do this! His ending is so satisfying with no detail left unwritten about.
The story moves along really well and never gets bogged down anywhere. Lots of side plots and mystery right to the end.
I just wish Jose Guzmann spoke more toward the end so you could learn more about his thinking and reasons for his actions.
Well written and I look forward to more!

I''m particularly interested in the Holocaust as my Father was a survivor, and I''m currently writing as book about him and my Irish Mum, and what he went through during the war and afterwards. Of course, books about the 2nd World War interest me, and this is a great example of a well-written and researched book, showing in detail the horrors of that time and the after effects. The main character is very likeable, especially as he has a mother who shares the same name as me! The story is interesting and I managed to read every word on every page, even though it is a long book with small writing! I have already delved into some of the research tools Andrew used and have also checked out his other books. The next one is on order, and I hope he keeps up the pace with that one too. All in all, a great first book and one which I can only recommend to friends and family.

The Last Nazi is Andrew Turpin''s debut novel and is a good one. It''s the first in a series featuring Joe Johnson, a former CIA agent and employee of OSI responsible for tracking down Nazi war criminals living in the USA. When we first meet him, he''s an independent private investigator and his current assignment involves, as the title suggests, finding one of the last remaining Nazi war criminals still at large. Johnson himself is a very attractive character. In his fifties, he''s brave and resourceful and utterly determined. Anybody on the wrong side of the angels better look out. His two chief allies are both women; an American journalist and an MI6 agent, and they too are both interesting and very committed. The plot involves tracking down a former SS brute, hiding out his declining years in Buenos Aires. There are complications involving the bad guy''s son, two survivors of the camps who are twins, the jewellery business, the son of one of the twins seeking the US Republican Party''s Presidential nomination, the CIA and the Mossad. Collectively, these threads make for an engaging narrative. Character and location descriptions are excellent and, together with the tale, this helps to create a satisfactory read. If I had one criticism it''s that the ending dragged a little with the chasing of the bad guys through Polish tunnels and around Argentinian border towns. Still that''s definitely not enough to stop me reading the next in the series to which I''m looking forward.

I cannot believe the amount of 5 star reviews this book is getting. It’s risible tosh, in which several of the main active protagonists are 90 year old Nazis and Holocaust survivors. So full of wildly implausible nonsense (like a leading Republican candidate for US president’s brother gets murdered, but everything just carries on towards the nomination) that I pretty much gave up halfway through. The lead character is an entirely unsympathetic cardboard cut-out. People zoom around the world in pursuit of their various schemes and objectives in the blink of any eye and without any real life style things getting in their way. I skim read the last 200 pages. Sooo boring and predictable, yet at the same time ridiculously far fetched. Hugely disappointing. Avoid.

The plot is reasonable but, quite frankly, the telling of it isn’t. Narration is flat, unbelievably naive and grammatically poor: it reads like an early submission to a creative writing course. Characterisation is shallow and although the main subjects are from three or four different countries, their dialogue holds no differential indicators other than the odd italicised word in Spanish. It struggles to hold attention and at times wonders aimlessly into the realm of impossibility. It’s a shame because, as I said, the plot is reasonable. A missed opportunity.

I tend to flit between UK and US-based writers. Amazon has some good points. It offers suggestions based on previously read and viewed books and makes books like this available. I bought this because I was on a mission to find something to read from a ''new'' British writer. I soon found myself transported across to the other side and forgetting this was actually a USA based novel written by a Brit. Joe is a remarkably well thought out and developed protagonist. The material also is excellent. It''s great to see a bloke giving more than secondary bit-parts to women characters. I''m going straight on to the Afghan.
